Description

Edaravone, a neurotrophic drug, is prescribed to alleviate the neurological symptoms due to acute cerebral infarction and to improve routine activity and ability. Edaravone is also prescribed to treat functional disorders. Edaravone exerts cerebral protective activity by scavenging free radicals.

As a free radical scavenger, Edaravone lowers N- acetyl aspartate (NAA) and reduce cerebral blood flow into the cerebral infarct areas. The mechanism of Edaravone action reduces cerebral edema and cerebral infarction and lowers lipid-peroxidation induced neuronal death and subsequent oxidative stress of endothelial cells of the brain.

Consider administration of 30 mg of Edaravone injection reconstituted with normal saline, two times a day. The course of treatment should be less than 2 weeks. IV infusion of Edaravone should be considered within 24 hours of onset of symptoms.
